Château Bellevue La Forêt Originel Fronton is a dry, medium-to-full-bodied blend of 55% Négrette, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Franc from France's Southwest that pours a deep violet-ruby and greets the nose with an enticing, perfumed bouquet of crushed damson, sun-dried rosemary and wild violet, underpinned by notes of warm clove, kirsch and a minerally lick of wet gravel that speaks directly to the region's gravelly, iron-rich soils. The palate is plush and generous, with rounded tannins and a bright, energetic acidity that carries through to a long finish with a compelling surge of black anise and earthy spice. Serve it slightly below room temperature and enjoy from now through 2030. The wine earned a Gold at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards 2025, a remarkable recognition for a wine at this accessible price point. Winemaker Christian Ivorra crafts this wine on France's largest single-bloc private wine estate at 112 hectares, a property whose roots in Fronton are remarkably deep: as far back as 1119, Pope Callistus II tasted and praised the wines of Fronton during a journey through the region, and the vineyards were subsequently gifted to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem in 1122, the same crusading order credited with bringing the Négrette grape to this corner of Southwest France from Cyprus. Try this alongside a slow-simmered sausage cassoulet with white beans and duck confit, where the wine's earthy grip and violet-tinged fruit rise to meet every smoky, herb-scented spoonful, or pair it with a herb-rubbed lamb roast for a classic and deeply satisfying match.

Food pairings: winter stew, rare cuts of meat, sausage cassoulet.
