Natalie's Score: 92/100

From the Crozes-Hermitage, Rhône wine region, Cave de Tain Héritiers Gambert Nobles Rives 2020 is a 100% Syrah red wine produced from sustainably grown grapes. On the nose it is intense with violets, ripe blackberry, raspberry, dark chocolate, anise, white pepper and toasty oak spice flavours smooth, savoury and long on the palate. Impressive, beautifully-balanced and delicious now, but can easily cellar for five-plus years.

Food pairings: roast leg of lamb, beef stew, Coq au vins.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A deep ruby wine, 100% Syrah, dry, with medium tannin and acidity. It is more savoury than fruity and has an earthy note, with black pepper, native herbs, blackberry and black plum with what could be a touch of strawberry and a hint of chocolate. and with a pronounced nose featuring black pepper. We paired this wine to its strengths with black olives, a 65% chocolate from Madagascar (Stubbe) with licorice nots featued in its tasting note, Swiss air dried beef (Bunderfleisch), very savory, hard goat cheese crusted with rosemary and beef braised in red wine with black pepper and rosemary. What did not work was dry cure salami with pepper; too fatty. The foods that worked all called to tastes present in the wine and we enjoyed it a lot.
