Rui Roboredo Madeira Douro offers concentrated aromas of blackberry, violet and hints of espresso. It's dry and full-bodied with a velvety texture. Serve it at room temperature with cocoa-rubbed grilled steaks where the wine's dark fruit complements the rich spice crust while its structured tannins balance the meat's char, or cellar it through 2031. Winemaker Rui Roboredo Madeira pioneered the concept of high-altitude wines in Portugal and in 2007 rehabilitated his family's Quinta da Pedra Escrita, a property held for over eight generations—he first made wine there in 1986 and now champions the extremes of the Douro Superior, crafting wines that express authentic terroir. This robust wine also pairs wonderfully with hearty beef and black bean burritos topped with sharp cheddar, where the wine's intensity matches the bold flavors while its fresh acidity cuts through the richness.

Food pairings: cocoa-rubbed steaks, burritos with beef and black beans.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
