Carpineto Chianti Classico 2010 Wine Review

Black cherries, game, smoke, tobacco, licorice and leather are some of the many notes thatemerge from the estate's 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva. Dark and brooding in its expressionof Sangiovese, the Riserva is all about power, density and structure. I imagine that as thewine ages the more animal dimensions of Sangiovese will take on greater prominence, butthere is little question the 2010 is a wine of real character. Drinking window: 2015-2025. (93 points Antonio Galloni,vinous.com,Sept. 2015) NEW: Carpineto's Chianti Classico Riserva has had time to grow into itself. There's black cherry and game on the nose, backed by a savoury edge of tobacco and a curl of smoke. The structure is still dense, though time has rounded its rougher edges. This is Sangiovese for people who like their wine a little untamed. It's terrific with a rich beef stew or a wedge of aged pecorino.
