Cantina Di Venosa's Verbo Aglianico del Vulture from Basilicata is a bold, medium to full-bodied red wine showcasing notes of black plum, leather, volcanic ash and dark spice. This dry wine displays firm tannins and rustic character that make it ideal for pairing with robust cuisine. Serve it at room temperature with grilled Italian sausages with peppers and onions as the wine's structure stands up to the charred flavors, or pair it with eggplant parmigiana where the wine's acidity cuts through the melted mozzarella and tomato sauce. Winemaker Giuseppe Calabrese crafts this Aglianico from vineyards planted on the slopes of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano whose mineral-rich soils impart distinctive earthy complexity to the indigenous grape. The Cantina di Venosa cooperative was established in 1957 and brings together over 300 local growers who tend ancient Aglianico vines in this historic corner of southern Italy. This characterful red wine represents excellent value and is best enjoyed through 2026.

Aglianico del Vulture food pairings: pork cutlets, Salisbury steak, vegetarian chili.
