A lush and full-bodied, juicy Merlot from the Burrowing Owl Winery in Okanagan, British Columbia. A very smooth wine! Grapes were hand-harvested and the wine spent 14 months in French, American and European oak barrels. Spicy and flagrant on the nose with fresh acidity on the palate matched with ripe dark cherry, dark raspberry, baking spice, plum and smoky flavours. Pour with grilled pork or beef tenderloin. Drink or hold.

Merlot food pairings: grilled pork chops, meat stuffed Portobello mushrooms, grilled veal chops.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Burrowing Owl's 2019 Merlot is packed with fresh blueberry, blackberry, black currant, cherry, plum, spice cupboard, and a hint of graphite and sous bois. Expressive and beautifully balanced, this full-bodied wine showcases great elegance too, making it a wonderful wine to enjoy with a wide range of dishes from wood-fired pizza, roasts, BBQ fare, and charcuterie. Try with grilled pork tenderloin with cherry-thyme pan sauce - a perfect pairing all year round! Tasted April 2022. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
