Brotte Les Hauts de Barville Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with layered aromas of morello cherry, wild blackberry, dried lavender, and garrigue with hints of cracked pepper and earthy minerals. Dry and medium to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, it unfurls across the palate with tension and freshness before closing with an elegant, persistent finish. Serve it slightly below room temperature or cellar it through 2030. Philippe Cambie, the renowned consulting winemaker, works with Laurent Brotte who leads this family estate founded in 1931 by his grandfather Charles Brotte, one of the pioneering négociants of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This classic blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah, and 5% Cinsault is crafted from six distinct plots including Pignan, Saint Vierge, Bédine, Beaurenard, Pradel, and Palestor, with 30% of the wine aged in French oak barrels to add structure while preserving the fruit's delicate core. Pair this harmonious red with osso buco where the wine's silky tannins complement the rich, braised veal shanks beautifully, or enjoy it with coq au vin as the earthy, herbal notes echo the dish's wine-infused sauce and mushrooms.

Food pairings: osso buco, coq au vin, herb-crusted rack of lamb.
