Plenty of vanilla, cream and lemon zest to the nose with a hint of guava. Zesty and bright on the palate with a medium body and a fl avorful, spicy finish. Long and creamy with plenty of oak spices. Drink in 2024 [or hold until 2029]. (91 points Zekun Shuai,jamessuckling.com,Sept. 18, 2023) MINE: From the Rioja wine region, Bodegas Campillo 2022 is produced from sustainably grown Viura and Chardonnay. Dry, medium-bodied and supple, there is a lovely weighty mouthfeel from barrel-fermentation on this wine showing tropical fruits, creamy vanilla, lemon pudding and toasty oak spice flavours fresh and lingering on the palate. Chill and enjoy it through 2029 with roast quail or chicken. NEW: Pan-fried trout with almonds is a natural partner. Bodegas Campillo ferments this Rioja white in barrel. Viura and Chardonnay share the blend, which brings weight and suppleness. Ripe pear and a dusting of cinnamon fill the glass. White Rioja is the region's best-kept secret, so don't tell everyone.

Food pairings: pan-fried trout, salads topped with Edam or Fontina cheeses, fish tacos.
