Boccantino Primitivo from Puglia offers enticing aromas of ripe blackberry, dark cherry, violets, and warm baking spices with hints of dried herbs and toasted oak. Dry and medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, it flows across the palate with vibrant dark fruit and closes with a peppery, floral finish. Serve it slightly below room temperature or cellar it through 2028. The skilled winemaking team at Schenk Italia, founded in 1952 and based in Trentino Alto Adige, produces this distinctive blend combining Primitivo with Susumaniello, a rare indigenous grape found only in Puglia that was nearly lost to history but has been revived by passionate producers, adding its characteristic spicy character and exotic aromatics to the wine's bold fruit profile. Pair this juicy red with slow-cooked beef stew where the wine's dark fruit complements the rich, savory flavors, or enjoy it with grilled sausages and roasted peppers as the peppery notes beautifully echo the dish's charred, smoky elements.

Primitivo food pairings: slow-cooked beef stew, grilled sausages with roasted peppers, aged Pecorino cheese.
