Bertinga Toscana Rosso Sangiovese Merlot is a compelling Super Tuscan from one of Gaiole in Chianti's most exciting young estates, founded only in 2015 on vineyard parcels previously owned by the celebrated Castello di Ama, yet already rewriting the Tuscan wine story at remarkable speed. Under the guidance of production manager Elisa Ascani and world-renowned consulting oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, this organically farmed blend of Sangiovese and Merlot is grown on the estate's signature Alberese clay-limestone soils, hand-harvested and aged in a thoughtful combination of Austrian oak ovals and French oak barrels to achieve both structure and finesse. The wine pours a vibrant, deep ruby and opens with a seductive, layered nose of dark plum, wild cherry and crushed blackcurrant, with a thread of warm spice and pencil shavings lending quiet complexity. On the palate it is dry, medium-to-full-bodied and generously fruited, with polished tannins, balanced freshness and a long, mouth-filling finish that lingers with real elegance. Bertinga's rise has been nothing short of meteoric for such a young producer; the estate was named Best Emergent Producer 2022 by the Guida Essenziale ai Vini d'Italia, while its flagship Volta di Bertinga was ranked among the top 100 wines in the world by James Suckling. Serve it slightly below room temperature and enjoy it through 2028. It is a superb companion to a slow-roasted leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary, or equally at home alongside a tagliatelle with wild mushroom and truffle ragù for a deeply Tuscan experience.

Food pairings: slow-roasted leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary, tagliatelle with wild mushroom and truffle ragù, grilled ribeye with aged Parmigiano and balsamic.
