This certified Kosher Mevushal Merlot offers attractive black plums aromas on the nose and palate. Finishes with dark spice and black raspberry. Polished tannins and medium-bodied. Backsberg has been making wine for more than 90 years and owner Simon Back is the fourth generation of the family to own this winery that is certified carbon neutral. Pair with brisket.

Reviews and Ratings

Bill Wright Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

At one sitting tasted the 2013 & 2014. I was disappointed with both getting aromas and flavours of alcohol and poor balance. Both are lovely to look at deep garnet and long, slow legs. Just put them aside for a bit. They opened amazingly. Both medium-bodied with aromas and tastes of black fruits. This wine absolutely has to be decanted. It surprises pleasantly after decanting but an aerator didn’t seem to make much difference.
The 2014 opens to earthy and smells of a raw, well peppered roast. Hints of oak and spice as well. Medium tart finish.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
