Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

This was tasted in a clutch alongside the other offerings of Ch. du Tariquet. This Armagnac is a part of Tariquet's Folle Blanche series. Instead of using a blend of Baco Blanche and Ugni Blanc, they wished to showcase Folle - the original grape varietal of the two big brandies from Gascogne (Armagnac and Cognac). This one was aged fifteen years. The eight year old has an intense 52% alcohol. This one is a more easy 47%.
Deep amber/gold colour.
The aromas show lots of burning sugar, dried leaves, smoke, and cedar. The fruit only tend to show up after acclimatizing your palate. Prune and dried apricot, mostly, with a bit of baked pie crust come out, as it evolves.
The flavours have more prune and raisin. The texture is rich and thick. Candied pecans and creme caramel. This would make an ideal digestive.
Part of the magic of Armagnac is that they are less expensive and usually less known, or sought out. This means that it is easy to get a very good quality one for not much money, but also there tend to be more experimental series or declared vintage bottlings. This provides curious consumers insight into what makes long maturation/premium spirits special.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
