Reviews and Ratings

Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Italy currently has more than 800 different grape types in production, many of which are heritage versions that are unique to Italy. Often these are only of deservedly local interest and difficult to sell to an international market but sometimes, they are made available and one of these heritage grapes hits a higher mark. The Bellone grape here, certainly qualifies as one of those. It is so ancient that it was mentioned by the Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder (23 A.D.to 79 A.D.) and has been grown in the Latium region of Italy since that time. During virtually all of this period it was a red skinned grape but this wine was made from a relatively modern white skinned clone.

In the glass, the wine shows a very pale lemon colour. The nose brings savoury stone fruit notes and a germane, bracing drift of chalky minerality. On the palate it presents what I took to be a limestone influenced tang with excellent savoury but rounded and persistent fruit. It shows a lovely balance that includes a crisp pleasing acidity. Both the body and intensity are on the modest side of medium. It is vinified entirely in stainless steel. Altogether, an interesting, flavourful wine. Once tasted, it's nearly impossible to stop thinking immediately about matching with savoury chicken dishes, fish, seafood pasta and more.
