Alpha Estate Turtles Single Vineyard Malagouzia P.G.I. Florina from Macedonia, northern Greece is a medium-bodied white grown on clay-limestone soils at 670 metres above sea level in a vineyard named for the ancient turtle nesting site the estate actively protects, fermented in stainless steel and aged on fine lees with regular stirring to build texture without masking the variety's aromatic freshness. On the nose it's fragrant and lifted, with white nectarine, acacia blossom, fresh ginger, and a cool limestone minerality. The palate is round and focused, with tangerine zest, lemon curd, a whisper of fresh basil, and a long, saline mineral finish with lively acidity. Winemaker Angelos Iatridis, who trained in Bordeaux and worked extensively in France, Italy, and Greece before co-founding Alpha Estate in 1997 with viticulturist Makis Mavridis, helped rescue the Malagouzia variety from near-extinction in the 1970s and is credited with restoring it as one of Greece's most distinctive aromatic whites. Serve it well chilled now through 2028 with curry shrimp, where the wine's aromatic depth and lively acidity balance the spice, or try it with seafood risotto where its mineral finish cuts through the creaminess cleanly.
