Natalie's Score: 89/100

13th Street's Merlot from Ontario is a plush, full-bodied red wine crafted from 100% Merlot with aromas and flavours of dark fruit. This dry wine displays firm tannic grip and balanced structure that will continue to develop over the next four years. Serve it at room temperature with braised short ribs as the wine's richness complements the falling-apart-tender meat, or pair it with beef ragù over pappardelle where the wine's spicy character enhances the savory sauce. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Colas crafts this smooth Merlot from Niagara Peninsula vineyards, where moderating lake influences create ideal conditions for ripening Bordeaux varieties to full phenolic maturity while maintaining freshness. 13th Street has been a benchmark Niagara producer since 1998, consistently producing VQA wines that showcase the quality and diversity possible from Ontario's cool-climate terroir. This mocha and smoke-tinged Merlot represents excellent quality and will drink beautifully through 2030.

Merlot food pairings: braised ribs, pulled pork, meaty pasta.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
