Mitolo Jester Shiraz 2012, South Australia, Australia: Bacon and campfire smoke on the nose of this big Australian red wine from oak aging. It's made from the country's flagship red wine grape Shiraz. Richard Tarlan was a favourite among the jesters to the Queen Elizabeth I and was the first to achieve national celebrity status. Shingleback Davey Estate Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, Australia: From the McLaren Vale wine region, Shingleback Davey Estate 2019 is produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz grapes from a single vineyard. A crowd-pleaser for sure, this wine is full-bodied, rich, smooth and fresh on the palate with dark plum, black cherry, menthol, blackberry, fresh herbs, dark spices with a smoky finish. Tannins are fine-grained and pleasantly grippy. Decant for two hours and pour with a prime rib roast or hold for five-to-eight years in cellar. Viu Manent Secreto Sauvignon Blanc 2022, Casablanca Valley, Chile: Viu Manent Gran Reserva Secreto 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is great value at $16. Dry, medium-bodied and fresh on the nose with asparagus, fine herb, lemon zest, pineapple and mineral notes vibrant on the palate. The grapes for this vintage came from two vineyards; one near the town of Casablanca and the other in the Las Dichas sector, about 11 kilometres from the sea.
