Emiliana Earth Day Merlot 2013, Valle De Rapel, Chile: This medium bodied Chilean red wine is made from Merlot grapes that are organically farmed, this the Earth Day sub-title and marketing strategy. Arboleda Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Aconcagua Valley, Chile: A full-bodied Chilean red wine made from the classic grape Cabernet Sauvignon in the Aconcagua Valley. The name of this wine is in honour of the 1,450 hectares of native forest that surround Arboleda's sustainably managed vineyards. This wine offers enticing aromas of blackcurrant cassis along with toasty oak. There's a grip on the palate, so decant one hour and enjoy with a rare steak. Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: beef enchiladas, barbecued ribs in sauce, hamburger, hard cheese, braised pork shanks with white beans. Drink: 2014 - 2018 208859 14% XD 750 mL $18.95 Score: 89/100. Arboleda Errázuriz Syrah 2013, Chile, Chile: This elegant, balanced style of Syrah is more in line with European expressions of the grape than with New World shiraz: more earth and smoke than fruit. Supple, full-bodied and gorgeously textured. I tasted a tank sample in April 2015 prior to bottling, so I'd like to see how this wine evolves. This wine was aged 12 months of new French oak barrels, at a cost of about $1000 per barrel. This winery was the first winery in Chile to produce Syrah in 1986.
