San Pedro 1865 Selected Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Maipo Valley D.O., Chile: San Pedro 1865 2019 is a great value Cabernet Sauvignon under $20 from the Maipo Valley wine region. Produced from old vines Cab Sauv. from the Alto Maipo, on the nose this fresh Chilean red is fragrant with dark berry, dark chocolate, cigar box and smoky oak aromas. The wine was aged in oak barrels, 20% new. From a warm vintage, the wine is dry, medium-bodied with blackberry, mulberry, spice, minty and fine herb flavours concentrated and supple on the palate. Pour with a slow-braised beef brisket. Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: prime rib, juicy steak, game, rustic bread, turkey. Peter Lehmann The Barossan Shiraz 2018, Barossa, South Australia, Australia: A robust and layered Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. Produced by the Peter Lehmann winemaking team. Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, blueberry, smoke and mocha. Tannins are firm. Decant two hours prior to pouring with a rare steak. Shiraz food pairings: grilled steak, pan-roasted beef filet and rösti potatoes, cheeseburgers, chicken mole. La Crema Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2018, Willamette Valley, Oregon, United States: From the Willamette Valley wine region, La Crema 2018 Pinot Noir is a lush, medium-bodied, sleek and smooth classic Oregonian PN with aromas of fresh, ripe cherry, raspberry, mocha, baking spices and racy acidity to match. Tannins are fine-grained. Although La Crema is well-known for its Californian Pinot Noir, this one from the Willamette Valley is a winner as well. Drink or hold. Pinot Noir food pairings: roasted pork loin, tourtière, prime rib, coq au vin. Rodney Strong Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Sonoma County, California, United States: Rodney Strong Reserve 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a 100% Cab Sauv. with cassis, ripe blackberry, dark plum, red berry, savoury herbs and cedar spice flavours elegant and long on the palate. Very nice now, and will easily cellar for another eight years. Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: lamb Bolognese, Asian chicken salad, pork tenderloin, barbecued steak.
