Dominio Del Plata

Crios Dominio Del Plata Malbec 2015

Mendoza, Argentina

Kimberly scored this wine: 90/100

A 2015 Malbec with smooth tannins, aromas of ripe dark berries, violets, and hints of spice and a "cigar box". I enjoyed this Argentine classic with its classic pairing: steak. Another great wine from Susana Balbo.

Torrontes or Torrontes Riojano is one of my favourite white varietals and Argentina is the main, if not only, country where it's cultivated (although I've had Torrontel wine in Peru). Torrontes Riojano is a cross between Muscat of Alexandria and Criolla Chica (Mission) grapes. An aromatic, medium boded but dry wine, the aromas and flavours are floral, peach, pear with a dash of lime. I used this in, and paired it with, mushroom and spinach risotto. The result was delicious.A great value wine perfect for a spring party.

Smooth White

Open Smooth White 2014

I was pleasantly surprised by this low budget Ontario wine. Honey, stone fruit and floral aromas. With medium acidity and body, this white paired well with dahl and chicken curry at Shafali's in Ottawa.

Terroir Series

Kaiken Terroir Series Malbec Bonarda Petit Verdot 2015

Vista Flores, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

Kimberly scored this wine: 90/100

A great value dry red wine made from a blend of Malbec (80%), Bonarda (12%) and Petit Verdot (8%). Robust aromas of dried fruit, violets, chocolate, and cloves. The flavours mirror the aromas but are darker and richer on the palate. A well balanced and structured wine with tannins and acidity that would stand up to a steak, roast or braised meat.

I went back to buy more and it was sold out at my local LCBO! No wonder...this Graciano wine is a great value wine. Aromas of black fruit (mission figs), plums, licorice, smoke, and a hint of earthy herbs and flowers. Dark berries and vanilla flavours give way to a refreshing acidity but very smooth mouthfeel. A dry fruit and leather finish.
