From Southbrook Winery in Ontario, Southbrook 2020 Vidal Skin Fermented White Orange wine has amazing aromas of Bergamot, orange blossom, ripe peach, citrus and savoury herbs. Savoury, juicy and vibrant on the palate with a kiss of skin tannins, the wine is produced from estate-grown grapes and was skin-fermented for 22 days. A very elegant and complex orange wine produced by Ann Sperling. The grapes were foot trodden to squeeze 30% of the berries with all of the fruit fermented in open top, stainless steel fermenters. The wine was bottled with some of its lees and no additives or sulphites.

Vidal Skin Fermented Orange Wine food pairings: fresh and bloomy rind cheeses, white bean spreads, pasta with cream sauce, white finned fish and roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The 2020 Southbrook Vineyards Skin Fermented Vidal (Orange Wine) is delightfully hazy and funky experience.

What I liked most about this wine was a citrusy and pressed flowers aroma plus the textured mouthfeel laced with noticeable tannin and refreshing acidity.

Designated as VQA Ontario, this wine’s path from harvest to bottle includes wild yeast fermentation (no commercial yeasts here), 20+ days of skin contact and no oak exposure. Enjoy with grilled pork loin.
