Le Serre Nuove Dell'ornellaia 2021 is a full-bodied, rich and powerful Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot red wine blend with layers of ripe dark fruits, dark chocolate, cedar brush and baking spice mouth filling flavours, and balanced with vibrant acidity on the palate. It will continue to develop in bottle for dozen or more years, and is beautiful now, but needs a bit of time in cellar to come together and to start showing its best. Try after 2025, but if having tonight, decant it for two hours and pour it with a juicy prime rib roast done rare!

Food pairings: lamb tagine, roast rack of lamb, beef long ribs on the barbie.

Reviews and Ratings

This is the second wine of Ornellaia, and a juicy red wine blend of mostly Merlot with 28% in Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 11% in Petit Verdot. Rich, concentrated, full-bodied and powerful, it is from an excellent vintage, poised and plushy with red plum, blackberry, dark cherry, dried herbs, tobacco leaf, baking spice and subtle vanilla flavours wrapped up in juicy acidity. Tannins are structured and fine-grained. Lovely now, but can easily cellar to 2028 to reveal its very best. - Community Wine Reviews
