In 1972, the Forty Creek distillery opened and more recently, was named Whisky Maker of the Decade at the Canadian Whisky Awards. The Forty Creek Copper Bold has intense toffee aromas like a bourbon, but with spicy rye notes. This whisky gets educated through extended barrel aging, creating incredible complexity. Did you know that Canadian whisky must be aged for at least three years in wooden barrels? Forty Creek takes this much further with their special aging process, creating their distinctive smooth yet complex profile. I'd pair this with maple-glazed bacon where thick-cut artisanal bacon is slowly baked with pure Canadian maple syrup and a touch of bourbon until it achieves that perfect balance of sweet, salty, smoky, and crisp – an irresistible accompaniment to this premium whisky.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I do enjoy a whisky cocktail. Recently, I had one made with this silver medal recipient at the 2024 Canadian Whisky Awards.

This is a Canadian whisky, meaning it has been mashed, distilled, and aged in Canada in wooden barrels for at least three years.

My senses picked up brown sugar, apricot - peach jam, roasted almonds, spiciness, and sweet caramel. No conflicts among that crew, only collaboration.

The texture has a lively edginess. The finish is ever long.

Forty Creek describes ther Copper Bold as a “crowd favourite”. I see that. Hand me a cocktail glass, please.
