Doña Paula El Alto Single Vineyard Malbec from Mendoza is a refined, medium to full-bodied red offering aromas of fresh lavender, ripe blackcurrant, and hints of mocha. It's dry with velvety tannins and lively acidity. Serve it slightly below room temperature with grilled ribeye steak as the wine's smooth texture and concentrated fruit will enhance the charred meat's savory richness beautifully, or pair it with aged Gouda cheese where the wine's balanced structure and persistent finish will complement the cheese's caramel-like complexity perfectly. Director of winemaking and viticulture Martín Kaiser, who joined Doña Paula as a viticulturist in 2006 and spearheaded the groundbreaking decade-long "Terroir in Focus" research program involving over 1,350 soil pits and 700 micro-vinifications, crafts this wine from vines planted in 1975 in the historic Alluvia Vineyard at Ugarteche. The wine ferments in concrete vessels before aging 12 months in French oak barrels (20% new), and comes from vineyards at 1,050 meters elevation where sandy loam to clay loam soils with variable stone content create the classic Luján de Cuyo profile. Enjoy now or cellar for 5-8 years.

Malbec food pairings: grilled ribeye steak, aged Gouda cheese, beef empanadas.
