Canada’s number 1 whisky Crown Royal Fine Deluxe was created in 1939 to commemorate the Canadian visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, with the bottle given to them as a gift in a purple velvet bag. Live generously, right? The silky smoothness of Crown Royal Fine De Luxe makes it the perfect whisky for any classic cocktail, like an Old Fashioned or Whisky Sour. You can also enjoy it neat or on the rocks. I’d pair this with maple-glazed pork tenderloin where the juicy meat is roasted to perfection and brushed with a reduction of maple syrup, mustard and rosemary, creating a caramelized exterior that complements the whisky’s smooth character.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Whisky writers have reported that the Fine De Luxe is the best-selling Canadian whisky for several years running, far exceeding the sales of the Canadian whisky holding down the second spot. But take note of this fact > the FDL is a blend of over 50 different whiskies, according to the company.

I do enjoy a whisky cocktail. Recently, I made an Old Fashioned with the FDL, but I had some neat before-hand to write this review.

The experience was appealing and approachable, like a world of sweet caramel, sweet butterscotch, sweet vanilla, and lightly smoked cloves. All sunk nicely into my tongue, a long finish in other words. The mouth feel was satisfying. Round, silky, with low heat. Hand me a cocktail glass, please.

ICYMI. To be classified as Canadian whisky, the liquid must be mashed, distilled, and aged in Canada in wooden barrels for at least three years.
