Calos Grande Réserve Malbec from Cahors is a powerful, full-bodied red offering aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum, and hints of toasted oak. It's dry with firm tannins and concentrated dark fruit. Serve it slightly below room temperature with grilled beef ribeye as the wine's robust structure and smoky depth will enhance the charred meat's savory richness beautifully, or pair it with aged cheddar cheese where the wine's bold tannins and black fruit intensity will complement the cheese's sharp complexity perfectly. Winemakers Hervé and Diane Fabre, who crafted acclaimed Malbecs in Argentina before returning to France to honor the grape's ancestral homeland, produce this wine for Les Vignobles Saint-Didier Parnac from grapes grown on the region's famed "calos"—the stony, gravelly terraces that give both the wine and the region its distinctive character. Cahors has produced deep, inky "black wines" since the early 19th century, earning their nickname from the exceptionally thick skins that develop on Malbec grapes in this terroir, and this Grande Réserve spends twelve months aging in oak barrels. Enjoy from 2027 or cellar for 3-5 years.

Malbec food pairings: grilled beef ribeye, aged cheddar cheese, braised short ribs.
