The Merlot (55%) and Cabernet Franc (45%) grapes in this robust red wine blend are kiln dried which concentrates the flavours in the grapes, resulting in a highly flavour-packed and intense wine that is very difficult to achieve in Ontario's cool climate otherwise. Terrific, rich notes of black fruit, toasty oak and dried tobacco and herbs. This is a smoking jacket kind of wine for contemplative after-dinner, world domination discussions.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Merlot-Cabernet Franc blend has a pronounced nose and a deep ruby colour. Yummy aroma and palate of black berry, black currant and raspberry. Jammy to taste with medium high tannins and pleasing acidity. Delicious with roast beef (cooked medium), and strong cheddar cheese. It was also a very pleasant wine to sip on its own.
Cured leaves are stripped from the tobacco sticks on which they grow and sorted according to quality. The best are then used in the kilns to dry the grapes for this appasimento style. - Winery
