Sandeman Tawny Port, Douro D.O.P., Portugal: This 20-year-old tawny port is absolutely glorious. Santa's not getting cookies and milk this year ;) Aromas of toasted almond, toffee and smoke. So lovely. This wine is aged in the winery's centuries' old cellars for an average of twenty (different vintages in the blend). Finishes with hints of dry honey, nuts and spices. Volpaia Chianti Classico 2018, Tuscany D.O.C.G., Italy: Volpaia 2018 Chianti Classico is a vibrant red blend of organically-grown Sangiovese, matured for 12 months in large French oak casks. Mouth-watering with tart cherry, wild herbs and spicy flavours on the palate. Tannins are firm and grippy and the wine does need some time to unwind. The Sangiovese grapes for this vintage were sourced near the village of Volpaia from one of the highest vineyards in the Chianti region. Showing great promise, try in 2023.
