This producer often creates very robust and spicy malbecs: this is the entry level wine for a range of wines from Catena that offers good value at different price points. Perez Cruz Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Maipo Valley, Chile: Juicy purple plums and blueberries on the nose and palate. Full-bodied and smooth and mouth-watering. Some dark pepper and more purple-blue fruit notes on the finish.  This wine is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a splash of Syrah and Carmenere grapes. Some vanilla smoke and dark fruit on the finish. Valle Andino Reserva Especial Syrah 2008, Colchagua Valley, Rapel Valley, Chile: A full-bodied red wine with a supple, smooth texture and seductive dark spices. Pretty darn amazing for the price, even at twice the price. Lusciously ripe black fruit with layers of juicy pleasure that will make you regret buying only one bottle. Salice Salentino Riserva, Cantele 2009, Puglia, Italy: Vibrant, juicy and lip-smacking delicious! Full-bodied, savoury and deep red wine. Dark fruit and smooth. Great price, especially for a DOC! Terrific Old World character, but blended with New World vitality and energy. The grapes for this wine are grown on the Salentine peninsula in southeastern Italy, known as the “heel of the boot.” The robust red wine is a blend of mostly negroamaro grapes and some malvasia nera grapes. Post House Blueish Black Blend 2011, Stellenbosch, South Africa: This unique blend of shiraz, pinotage, merlot and cabernet sauvignon is full-bodied and smooth. It's very balanced and almost has mature aromas of leather, smoke and dried sour cherry. Very lovely, especially for the price. Cline Cellars Cashmere Named Varietal Blends-Red 2012, California, United States: A lovely, supple and seductive red wine with full-bodied weight that's not heavy. Gorgeous aromas of black cherry, dark plum and anise. This wine is a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache grapes. About 25% of this wine was matured for 9 months in oak. Concentrated and rich with great food compatibility for dishes like grilled pork and t-bone steak. Cashmere isn't simply the name of this wine, its also the supple, seductive mouth-feel of it.
