Juan Gil Monastrell 2011, Jumilla, Spain: Savoury dark chocolate notes with black fleshy plums with a juicy, voluptuous finish. Full-bodied and satin smooth. A huge crowd pleaser. The Monastrell grapes has been grown in Jumilla for centuries. The grapes for this wine come from 40-year-old vines at 700 metres above sea level and the wine was then matured in French oak for 12 months. Great value. This DOC wine is the silver label in the winery's lineup. Drink: 2013-2017. 1677 14.50% D 750 mL  $23.95 Score: 91/100. February 15, 2014 Top Rated Red Wine. Best Beef Wine Full Review

Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Napa Valley, California, United States: Classic Californian cabernet: beautifully sculpted with enticing aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and some dark spices. This is an extremely consistent producer year after year. Makes me want to hunt some ducks for dinner, or perhaps just order duck a l'orange at my local restaurant specializing in that dish. Some vanilla spice and smoke on the finish. This will cellar well. Drink: 2013-2018. 186171 13.90% D 750 mL  $29.95 Score: 92/100. December 7, 2013 Best Beef Wine Full Review
Rodney Strong Merlot 2010, Sonoma County, California, United States: Rodney Strong was Sonoma’s 13th bonded winery back in 1959, and the Klein family has owned it ever since 1989. They strive for sustainable agriculture and thus became Sonoma County’s first carbon-neutral winery. There's terrific balance, structure, supple texture and length on the finish of this wine. Alluring aromas of mocha-coffee on the nose along with rich black fruit. Pleasantly surprising vibrant acidity for food. Plush black plums and coffee on the finish. Try is with braised beef.
