Cheval Noir 2012, Bordeaux Aoc, France: This value-priced Merlot comes from the heart of the Bordeaux region. It's savoury with aromas of tart blackcurrant and cassis. The Mahler-Besse family has been producing wines here since 1895. The name derives from a powerful black horse that worked in the vineyards in the 19th century. Chateau De Nages Costiéres De Nîmes 2012, Rhône A.C., France: Robust and tannic so decant 2 hours or give it some cellar time. brought to us by R. Gassier Proprietor, this wine has richly concentrated flavours of wild blackberry and currants. A splash of Mourvèdre grapes in the blend lends the wine a terrific velvet mouth-feel. Lan Gran Reserva Tempranillo 2007, Rioja D.O.C.A., Spain: Subtle and complex with aromas of cigar box, leather, violets and black cherry. Full-bodied and mouth-watering. Love the taste and feel of maturity in this wine. Drinking well now though will also keep in the cellar for a few years. Wakefield Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Clare Valley, South Australia, Australia: A box office hit at the liquor store! This robust red wine at a great price offers tremendous value and bang for your buck. Attractive aromas of mint and blackberry on the nose. Juicy, full-bodied, rich and delicious on the palate. Wakefield is known for producing wines of outstanding value and quality. This is no exception. This particular vintage of this wine has been awarded several honours in the value-priced wine category for a number of international competitions. It finishes nicely with black plum, espresso and cloves. Black in hue with aromas to match of dark fruit, tar and smoky oak. Dark spices on the finish. Great bang for your buck.
