Painted Rock Estate Winery Ltd. Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Okanagan Valley, BC V.Q.A., Canada: A robust, savoury red wine with delicious, meaty, black fruit aromas and flavours. There's something extra special here that's not about being big and robust: it's structured muscle and focused power. Needs cellar time. Spectacular. Painted Rock Estate Winery Merlot 2015, Okanagan Valley, BC V.Q.A., Canada: A seductive nose of wild black plum and savoury herbs. Fullbodied and smooth with a satisfying bite on the finish that reminds you that this wine is more than one thing. Complex, rich, deep and mouth-watering. Endlessly fascinating. Château des Charmes Generation Seven Nouveau Gamay 2013, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: A vibrant, quaffable nouveau with dark cherry and peppers notes. Smooth and mouth-watering, this is an excellent value and one of the best Ontario nouveaus. Gamay food pairings: hamburgers off the grill, spaghetti with meatballs or your favourite pizza. Coopers Creek Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: Grassy and herbal but not overly so in this zesty, well-respected New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Finishes with lime lift and zest. Even the acids are well balanced here. I smell vegetarian quiche. I'm hungry (and thirsty).
