White Wine

Domaine Porto Carras Mainland Assyrtiko 2023, Halkidiki, Macedonia P.G.I., Greece: Domaine Porto Carras' Mainland Assyrtiko from Halkidiki, Macedonia is a bold, medium-bodied white wine offering notes of lemon, green melon, wet stone and saline minerality. This dry, organically certified wine displays vibrant acidity and impressive intensity that will continue to evolve over the next five years. Serve it well chilled with grilled octopus and olive oil as the wine's bright acidity complements the charred seafood, or pair it with feta and spinach pie where the wine's mineral character balances the salty cheese. Winemaker Yiannis Paraskevopoulos crafts this distinctive Assyrtiko from Greece's largest organic vineyard, first planted in the early 1960s when the estate recognized the potential of this indigenous white grape beyond its native Santorini. The Domaine Porto Carras estate spans over 475 hectares along the Aegean coast, where Mediterranean breezes and diverse soils create wines of remarkable complexity and freshness. This intense Assyrtiko represents excellent value and will drink beautifully through 2030. Assyrtiko food pairings: creamy pasta dishes, grilled shellfish, salads topped with freshly steamed and chilled shrimp. Red Wine

Corte Sant Anna Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2017, Veneto D.O.C.G., Italy: Corte Sant'Anna's Valpolicella Classico from Veneto is an elegant, full-bodied red wine blending Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella with notes of red cherry, dried fig, espresso and sandalwood. This dry wine displays ripe, polished tannins and impressive complexity that will continue to evolve over the next seven years. Serve it at room temperature with osso buco as the wine's structure stands up to the braised veal shank, or pair it with wild mushroom risotto where the wine's earthy character complements the umami flavors. Winemaker Luca Fedrigo crafts this exceptional Valpolicella from estate vineyards in the Classico heartland, where traditional winemaking methods and careful aging create wines of remarkable depth and aging potential that transcend the appellation's typical profile. Corte Sant'Anna is a small family estate dedicated to producing world-class wines from indigenous Veronese varieties, demonstrating that Valpolicella Classico can achieve the complexity and longevity of Italy's most prestigious wines. This outstanding wine earned an impressive 97 points at the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards and will drink beautifully through 2032. Valpolicella Classico food pairings: spaghetti and meatballs, Margherita pizza, veggie lasagne.
