Contact: Margaret Norton Arnold

Steven Arnold has been making wine for twenty-five years. Early in his marriage to Margaret he assumed production duties at his uncle-in-law’s home winery. Steven has perfected his art over the past two decades to create wines of remarkable heft
and substance. In addition to his wife, he is joined in the business by his brother-in-law Terry Norton.

All of the wines are produced at our family farm in the Yakima Valley, a homestead purchased by the Norton family in 1912. The family acquired extensive acreage over a number of years, but lost most of those orchards during the first depression in the early 1920s. Our grandparents hand-packed apples to earn enough money to buy the land back from the bank, and by 1931 the family had once again regained ownership over a number of apple and cherry orchards. Although much of that land has since been re-sold, we retain the original homestead and a few acres of cherries.

We hand pick all of our grapes, and have been fortunate to build relationships with grape growers who own some of the oldest, most respected vineyards in the Yakima Valley. Our cooperage is also performed entirely by hand. The grapes are pressed by hand and are then carefully tended as they move through fermentation, aging, mellowing in oak casks, and finally, bottling.
Our production will grow slowly over time to ensure that we are able to maintain the high-quality, hand built features of all of our wines.

Our wines are currently produced under relatively primitive conditions, using the family basement, glass carboys, and oak casks perched on picnic tables. In 2008 we intend to remodel our Grandview garage to become a full-fledged winery. This remodeling will mark, in turn, another major milestone – the year in which we gradually begin to build toward a higher volume of wine production.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
