Ned oversees day-to-day operations at the winery and work closely with the vineyard team to manage all estate vineyards. Ned’s winemaking philosophy balances old-world tradition with modern science and technology. He believes in creating wines that have long cellar potential, yet are approachable upon release. His combined experience and winemaking style make him a great fit at Canoe Ridge Vineyard.

Our winemaking philosophy is based in the vineyard, where the level and quality of ripeness become the foundation of every new vintage.

Throughout the entire growing season we monitor soil moisture, heat units, pest pressure and plant growth. We balance the crop, green thin and irrigate to allow the vines the proper health to ripen the crop. Ripeness is achieved when balance, flavor maturity and sugar levels converge, making the decision of when to pick by far the most important one we make each year.

Our estate vineyard overlooks the vast Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses 29,370 acres of marshes, sloughs, open water and cropland. This is a popular nesting area for Great Basin Canadian geese, several species of ducks and other marsh and water birds.
