Deep, dark violet in the glass and fragrant with red plum, red berry and vanilla aromas, the palate is generous with dark cherry, plum, mulberry, vanilla and pepper spice flavours fresh on the finish. The vineyard experiences warm daytime temperatures giving the grapes time to ripen completely and evenly while the cooler night time temperatures help the grapes to retain their acidity. Rapitalà Vigna Casalj 2024, Alcamo, Sicily D.O.C., Italy: Catarratto Lucido spends time in stainless tanks before a short rest in larger wood for this Classico bottling from Rapitala. Green apple and grapefruit lead, with a saline edge keeping the finish sharp. Real acidity, rather than richness, keeps the texture lively throughout. It finishes with good length for an everyday white. Grilled shrimp or a couscous salad would make an easy match. Sicily's everyday whites keep getting more interesting, and this one is a good reason why. Food pairings: grilled shrimp, grilled calamari, couscous salad.
