Antaño Crianza Rioja Doc, Rioja D.O.C., Spain: Antaño Crianza Rioja DOC, Rioja, Spain is a classic and crowd-pleasing Tempranillo-based red that brings together ripe red fruit and savoury complexity. It opens with inviting aromas of red cherry, plum and raspberry, accented by notes of vanilla, baking spice and a touch of toasted oak from its ageing. The palate is medium-bodied and dry with smooth tannins, balanced acidity and around 13.5% alcohol, leading to a warm, lingering finish. Crianza designation means the wine has spent time ageing in oak barrels and in bottle before release, giving it a comforting depth and soft texture. Rioja Doc food pairings: grilled chorizo and roasted peppers, where the wine’s red fruit and spice complement the smoky savoury flavours. Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal 2022, Setúbal D.O.P., Portugal: Bacalhôa's Moscatel de Setúbal from Setúbal is a youthful, medium-bodied fortified wine crafted from 100% Moscatel de Setúbal with notes of white nectarine, orange blossom, honeyed apricot and sweet spice. This lusciously sweet wine displays generous acidity to balance its rich texture and warming character. Serve it well chilled with lemon tart as the wine's citrus peel notes complement the dessert, or pair it with creamy blue cheese where the wine's sweetness balances the pungent, salty flavors. Winemaker José Neiva Correia crafts this fortified dessert wine with a façade of honeysuckle aromatics leading to an unctuous core diffused by bright acidity, finishing with marzipan, toasted nuts and dried fruit complexity.
