Puelles Reserva 2014 is a flavoursome Tempranillo-driven red blend with some local grapes added to the mix. Dry, full-bodied and savoury with dark cherry, dark berry, leather, earthy mushroom, dried rose petals, anise and pepper spice flavours velvety on the palate. An excellent value Rioja under $20 to be enjoyed with charcuterie and hard cheeses. The winery "Jesús y Félix Puelles Fernández" is located in the Rioja Alta and was founded in 1855 by the Puelles family. Today, the winery is overseen by brothers Jesús and Félix Puelles.

Food pairings: grilled lamb chops, veal chops, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Made by Bodegas Puelles, the Puelles Reserva 2014 from the Rioja Valley in Spain deliver aromas of sugarplum, dried blackberry, dried rose, pastrami, cinnamon, spice and cedar. Made from Tempranillo giving a full body, great tannin and lovely acidity. The finish is long and dried, calling for a cheese or red meat pairing. Palate: tart cherry, dried blueberry, dried rosemary, parmesan cheese, spice, coca and cedar. Enjoy!
Puelles Reserva 2014 is a beautiful Tempranillo Reserva that spent 24 months maturing in a mix of French and American oak barrels prior to bottling. Fragrant with dried dark fruits, fig, tanned leather, mushroom and dried florals on the nose, spicy and velvety on the palate. A fantastic value Rioja red at $19 and ready to enjoy now with hard cheeses or savoury meat dishes. The winery "Jesús y Félix Puelles Fernández" is located in the Rioja Alta and was founded in 1855 by the Puelles family. Today, the winery is overseen by brothers Jesús and Félix Puelles. - Community Wine Reviews
