Natalie's Score: 89/100

This robust southern French red wine has seductive aromas of black cherry liqueur, dark spice and some oak. Very attractive, especially for the price. This full-bodied red wine is a blend of mostly Grenache grapes and the remainder Mourvèdre and Syrah grapes for the 2010 grapes. Decant 2 hours. Pair with grilled meats.

Xavier food pairings: meat pizza, roast pheasant, Porchetta pork roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Absolutely delicious! A Beautiful bouquet of black cherry, plum, all spice, clove, anise, cedar, tobacco, and leather billow from a glass of Xavier. Flavours linger on and on with prominent notes of cherry and winter spices. A full-bodied Rhone red with high balanced acidity, satiny developing tannins, and a long berry anise finish. Tasted July 2017 by @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
This Rhône red is a robust, black cherry, spice and smoky red from the Côtes du Rhône. This full-bodied red wine is a blend of mostly old vines Grenache with Mourvèdre and Syrah. Nicely structured and balanced, pair with grilled lamb chops. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
