Reviews and Ratings

RESERVA ESPECIAL / Pleasant but fading fast so drink now. Earth, dust, smoke and leather not fruit in this full-bodied, smooth Spanish red wine made from Tempranillo Graciano and Mazuelo grapes grown in the heart of the Rioja region. This wine was aged in French and American oak for 24 months. Pair with lamb. MINE: From Bodegas Benito Urbina, Urbina Reserva Especial (2001) is a deep-rub red 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 5 % Mazuelo blend. The 2001 Seleccion Especial was produced from organically grown wine grapes from 50 plus year old vines. The wine was aged 24 months in French and American oak. Drink now. OTHER: Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: A ruby coloured red with underwood aromas that include truffles, black olives, a touch of wet cedar and dried autumn leaves. On the palate, we have dark berries including blackberries as well as a certain earthy quality. The tannins are velvety and well incorporated with the vibrant acidity. There is a nice long cocoa finish and overall this wine is lovely. Suggested wine-food pairing: Lamb or pork roast. Tasted November 2017. OTHER: : A classic, mature Rioja with plenty of dried-banana character, but also blackberry and smoke notes. Supple and generous until you get to the crisp finish. A blend of tiprenolol, Graciano and manzello. Score - 91 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Aug. 2, 2018). - Community Wine Reviews

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
