Natalie's Score: 90/100

This blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 27% Franc is incredibly dark and concentrated with a rich core of fleshy black fruit, smoke and dark chocolate notes. This wine was aged in small French oak barrels for those smoky, vanilla spice aromas: delicious! You can order this wine directly from the winery at www.tawsewinery.ca.

Méritage food pairings: rare steaks, beef.

Reviews and Ratings

Neil Phillips rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Nose of cassis, herbs, hint of capsicum, cedar box, tobacco.

Medium+ length, fruit is slightly tight and held nicely with medium+ acid and medium tannins. Tart on the finish, with a hint of tomato.

Could age a further five years with ease.

A fine example of what Ontario is capable of today in Bordeaux blends, from a superb estate. Alas - should it cost so much?

Tasted October 2014
This 2009 comes across like a fine St-Julien. Aromas suggest cured meat, cassis, raspberry, cinnamon and smoky cherry wood. Perhaps the richest, ripest nose of any of the Ontario 2009 red wines. Quite dry on the palate with the generous fruit given a great lift by a bright and lively acid backbone. This wine is still incredibly youthful. A monumental wine made for cellaring (3-4+ years). It can also be enjoyed tonight, decanted. Source: VINTAGES Wine Panel, Nov. 2012
