A terrific, zesty New Zealand white wine made from the country's most iconic grape, Sauvignon Blanc. The aromas of gooseberry, lime citrus and lemongrass almost jump out of the glass. Terrific freshness through the mid-palate and finish. Old Coach was named after the historic route of the mail run through the Moutere Hills of Nelson used in the 1850s. The winery first planted grapes in 1973, and is still family-owned and run by Hermann Seifried. Pair this zesty wine with fresh seafood, salads and vegetarian dishes.

Sauvignon Blanc food pairings: cold chicken sandwiches, steamed mussels, seafood bites.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Superb, crisp, tangy, dry, mouthwatering acidity and great with or without food. Fantastic freshness, fruit, balance and integration. Declared 13% ABV. Asian pear, gooseberry, lemongrass, fresh green bean. Full bodied. Long finish with persistence of verbena. Pairs incredibly with spicy Sri Lankan curry, white baked fish with pesto, sushi. Tasted 2015 vintage in May 2017. Great value and accessibly priced. 92 points @bespoketastings
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Utterly compelling and complex nose in this award-winning Sauv Blanc - grassy, herbaceous, gooseberry, lemon zest and stone. Stone-dry and full-bodied with classic and refined flavours of lemon-lime, cut grass, pear and cristalline acidity. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Lise Charest Gagne rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Loving this refreshing, crisp, highly aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. Simply said it's a thirst quencher! Get out your swim suits and sun hats this wine screams summer! Aromas of tropical fruit, passion fruit and peach, grass and herbs, it's very fruit forward and had my mouth watering on the smell component of my evaluation. Flavours of candied gooseberries, lemongrass with a mineral almost floral finish. It's not sour and I don't get any pucker factor on this one yet it's still zesty. Sensory overload for a white wine Love It! Tasted on a Friday night after a frantic week in June 2017.

Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This is a great expression of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. If you look at their website you will see that its sold out on home turf - so if you can pick up a few bottles now in Ontario I suggest you do so. Intense aromas of grass, gooseberry and citrus notes. Crisp flavours with plenty of minerality - not surprising given the vineyard is a "combination of rocks and boulders". Long mouth watering finish that leaves you wanting more. Pair with grilled fish or a spinach and goat cheese salad. Tasted June 1, 2017
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Springtime in a glass! Aromas of freshly cut grass, lime, gooseberry, and a mouth bursting with citrus flavours. Perfect with creamy pasta dishes and summer salads. 91 pts.
Tasted June 2017.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A gorgeous representation of a NZ Sauvignon Blanc with balanced acidity and complex flavours of citrus and fresh herbs. Crisp acidity with a long, citrus finish. Tasted June 01 2017.
Aaron Fanning rated this wine as 89/100
