A superb Californian Chardonnay from the Mondavi estate's most prized vineyard, To Kalon Vineyard, planted in Oakville. It features old vine Sauvignon Blanc, which adds depth and complexity to this wine. Aromas of lemongrass, chives and lime zest with racy acidity and an attractive smoky finish. Pair with fresh seafood.

Fumé Blanc food pairings: grilled shrimp, seafood Shepherd's pie, calamari, grilled whitefish.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

The provenance of Robert Mondavi's Fume Blanc Reserve is some of the finest Grand Cru quality vineyards in North America, being the world-renowned To Kalon Vineyard in Napa Valley's Oakville AVA. A blend of 98% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Semillon sourced entirely from To Kalon Vineyard, with some of the Sauvignon Blanc vines dating back to 1945, with the balance planted in 1959, 1994, and 1999, making them some of the oldest and renowned in North America. The vines are nestled beside Opus One and Beckstoffer vines, and neighbouring Harlan Estate, needless to say, many of the finest wines in California come from this storied micro region which is known to deliver perfect (or near perfect) scoring wines vintage after vintage. 2013 happened to be a fantastic vintage with optimally ripened fruit allowing for an early harvest which was completed in August. The nose shows a beautiful bouquet of exotic fruit, key lime, lemon grass, pink grapefruit, tangerine, and pronounced flint. Creamy and refreshing with a mineral-rich mouthwatering finish, the layers of fruit are elegant, structured, perfectly balanced and beautifully textured which is what To Kalon fruit is known for, but winemaker Genevieve Janssens adds further complexity and texture to the wine by a variety of techniques including French oak barrel as well as concrete egg fermentation. To Kalon barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc is a style unlike no other and a style that's loved by many. Enjoy the 2013 Fume Blanc Reserve with seafood, sushi, and smoked fish. One of my favourites, lemon ginger shrimp. Drink 2018 to 2027. Tasted February 2018. 94 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Lynn Van Der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Please see my colleague Matt Steeves' review on this wine. Needless to say, this is one kick-ass wine. Lots of tropical fruit and vanilla on the nose, velvety mouth feel, and a zippy lime finish. Beautifully paired with spinach and feta pizza, or smoked salmon.
Tasted June 2018.
From the winery's historic To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, California, Robert Mondavi's Fumé Blanc is layers of dried herbs, lemon zest, and smoky from a light touch of toasty oak. Beautifully dry with a zesty acidity. Pair with grilled jumbo shrimp and lobster tail. - Community Wine Reviews
