Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Upper Bench Estate Winery is a dry (2.8% res. sugar) 100% Chardonnay sourced from wine grapes in the Central Okanagan Valley. Fermented with wild yeasts and partially aged (50%) three months in French oak barrel and then in stainless steel tank, this is a lovely butterscotchy Chard with just the right amount of oak to give the wine structure and depth. On the nose, there are ripe apricots, soft citrus and light toasty spice aromas. On the palate, more ripe apricots with lemon curd, butterscotch with honeyed tropical fruit flavours. Elegant and well-balanced and absolutely made to go with the winery's artisan cheeses. The on-site creamery makes five different washed-rind, brie, and blue cheeses and the brie is a perfect match for this Chardonnay. The winery also has a patio (weather dependent) so you can make a stop and enjoy both there.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Tasted in 2023. This wine has a bit of age and is nicely rounded with a lot of texture. Aromas of golden pear and apple with notes of honey, along with hints of vanilla and a touch of honey. Full bodied, smooth and rounded with rich rounded fruit, and a bit of spice. Slight notes of age are starting to come through, with a note of dried herbs and tea on the palate and a bit of a dried texture on the finish. I would enjoy this soon if you still have the 2017 around, but it's still got some life in it!
