La Cuvee des Fees is produced by Laurent Miquel at the Domaine Cazal Viel which was acquired by the Miquel family in 1791. It is located in the south of France, in the Languedoc-Roussillion wine producing area, more precisely in the Saint-Chinian AOC.
There are many legends that surround this property! Oner of them being that fairies inhabited a cave close to the vineyard, hence the name "La Cuvee des Fees" (Fairies' Vintage).
This wine is Syrah dominant but beware if you expect it to be your typical "fruit-bomb" Australian Shiraz! This is a more of a Northern Rhone style Syrah, mineraly, focused and granitic! It's a Syrah, Chateau Margaux style!
In the glass, it is a bright deep purply red with limpid legs.
On the nose, it is expressive with aromas of granite, cassis, garrigue herbs, and ripe raspberries.
On the palate, it is dry, velvety, round, fleshy, full of black pepper, eucalyptus, minerals and blackberry preserve. The glycerol texture helps to subdue the "high" alcohol content (14% ABV).
A soft and tender Syrah, full of beautiful subtleties.
Enjoy on its own, with a duck roast and a bacon, thyme wild rice stuffing or a generous plate of baked home-made gnocchi in a garlicky mushroomy sauce!
Yum Yum!

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
