Reviews and Ratings

Drink Wine and Giggle Gals rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A blend of the aromatic monemvasia grape and roditis, Kastropolitia presented the Drink Wine and Giggle Gals with a dilemma: what does this wine smell like? We inhaled deeply and let our minds wander...flippers!...yes, everyone agreed that this wine smells like flippers, but not in a bad way. With grilled sea bass (from the fabulous Greek restaurant Volos) on our plates, flippers made an excellent oceanic match. (Apparently, the Drink Wine and Giggle Gals were more than a bit off as monemvasia is supposed to smell like pears, apricots and white currants...)
Kastropolitia is Greek for "castle city"--another name for Monemvasia, the Peloponnesian home of the monemvasia grape. Most ampelographers (another word of Greek origin that translates as "vine writers") believe monemvasia is an ancient grape that was extremely popular among Venetians in the Middle Ages. The Greek Wine and Giggle Gals who are fairly familiar with the middle ages enjoyed Kastropolitia with food, but found it a bit too plump to be enjoyed as an aperitif. Overall we give it three flippers up.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
