A gorgeous Niagara Syrah with Pinot-like finesse, but richer, deeper and darker. Aromas of dark spice, black cherry, dark berries, smoke and violets. Supple and smooth. Pair with veal or grilled chicken.

Syrah food pairings: chicken Kiev, meat-filled pasta with rich tomato sauce, grilled pork chops, gourmet burgers.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Icellars is excelling in the production of high quality red wines, which is earning them a reputation as one of the top fine wine producing wineries in Ontario. Their low production Syrah (145 cases) has a deceiving light ruby red appearance which bursts with expressive strawberry, smoky plum, black cherry, green peppercorn, olive, and baking spice. Incredibly well structured, with fine integrated tannins and that fresh cool-climate acidity which makes this wine a terrific candidate for rich braised dishes or grilled lamb with fresh ground pepper. Tasted September 2018. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

After the hot and dry 2016 vintage delivered perfect grapes, they were harvested, sorted, fermented, and transferred to a combination of American and French oak, one-third new, for 12 months. What emerged is excellent. Black pepper, smoke, tar, and cured meat leads the aromatic assault, rapidly followed by ripe dark fruit. Oak spice shows through, but only as a supporting feature. There is too much to love in this expertly grown and vinified wine to mask with excessive barrel notes. Tannins are bold but very smooth. The hot vintage has given a full body, but there is not any noticable warmth, and good acidity retains freshness. Olive and violet emerge with breathing. An obvious choice for steak au poivre.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Lovely and complex!! This is a robust and flavorful Syrah from Niagara, showing aromas of dark cherry, warm spice, violets, black pepper and a hint of a savoury note. Full bodied, bright acidity, and lots of dark fruit and pepper on the palate. A nice lengthy finish and again, a hint of a savoury note on the finish. Perfect to accompany a variety of foods, from a nice cured salami or charcuterie platter, to roasted lamb or a richly marinated flank steak.
