Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Great name for this ruby red, full-bodied blend from Hester Creek Estate Winery. Character 2018 does indeed have a lot of character. Aromas of cooked smoked bacon, dark cherries, earthy violets, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger spice on the nose. Dry, with glazed cherries, dried fine herbs smoked meat, sweet cake and pepper spice flavours with a citrus rind medium-plus finish on the palate. Just the tonic for a cold winter's night by the hearth fire or pair with a meaty stew or grilled venison ribs in red wine sauce -- which is what we did. So savoury and satisfying, but be sure to have a second bottle on hand ... you don't want to have to go out in this weather to get another one. Decant one hour prior to serving. The 2018 vintage was produced from old vines Merlot, Syrah, Malbec and Petit Verdot and aged in French and American oak barrels for eight months.
Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Matured in French and American oak for 8 month, this red blend was defined by aromas and flavours of cherry, black berry and character giving sweet spice. Adorned in attractive, deep ruby red, this medium bodied creation’s blending formula features merlot, syrah, petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon, malbec and cabernet franc. Hester Creek has crafted wine in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley since 1968. Enjoy.
