A velvety, full-bodied and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with a splash of Petit Sirah added from the Hess Collection with ripe dark fruit, sweet spice and toasty oak and vanilla spice flavours on the palate. So good now. Enjoy with a prime rib roast beef.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: Asian chicken salad, pork tenderloin, hodge-podge, grilled burgers.

Reviews and Ratings

Trent Mayers rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

It’s hard to find California Cabernets below $25 that deliver good Cab fruit. This one does. Expect a dry, nearly full bodied red with intense ripe black cherry, cassis, black raspberry, vanilla, coconut, sage, and black currant jam with a little herbaceous leafiness combined with balanced acidity and tannins. It cries out for a BBQ steak or grilled Portobello mushroom caps if you prefer. It may improve over the next 3-4 years, but I would drink it now to enjoy the fruit. 4 stars out of 5.
From the North Coast, California, Hess Select 2016 is a mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some Petit Sirah red wine blend. Full and rich on the nose with plum compote and dark chocolate aromas. Dry, full-bodied and velvety with crush blackberry, black currant, dark plum and spicy flavours on the palate with pinpoint precision of acidity to fruit. Tannins are velvety. Pair with a roast leg of lamb. The Select portfolio comprises Hess' entry-level wines. This one is a beauty. - Community Wine Reviews
