Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Medium bodied , medium ruby dry wine. Pronounced aroma of fresh fruit, red cherry, blackberry and plum with a floral note. A spicy aroma appears later. The wine tastes of tart, fresh red cherries with a spicy edge. Medium finish of tart red cherry with a spicy edge. This wine is a food wine; try it with Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey dinner or rich tomato based dishes.
Wineboy rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Solid power of aromas with cherries dominating the bouquet with a touch of earth or soil - classic Sangiovese. Starts Fully dry from the acids evolving to a sweet note from the level of extraction rather than residual sugars. Lovely use of oak which perfectly matches the power of fruit, leaving a beautiful balanced wine.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is a wine made in the Maremma region of coastal Tuscany with a minimum of 85% Sangiovese grape. Morellino Di Scansano was granted DOC status in 1978 and then DOCG status in 2007.

Aromas of sweet cherry, though on the palate they come through as a tart cherry. Good acidity and soft tannins. Medium body with a medium finish.

A great every day pasta wine!

Tasted November 17/2019
Colin McKone - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Ruby in colour with aromas of cherry, plum, smoke and blackberries. It is full bodied with high tannins and high acidity with favours of black cherry, black pepper and cooked red berries with a short fruity finish. This will pair well with tomato based dishes. Tasted on November 17, 2018.
From the Tuscany wine region, Grillesino Battiferro Morellino Di Scansano 2017 is a full-bodied, savoury and smooth 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon red wine blend and great value under $18. Look for earthy, ripe cherry, wild berry and plum flavours with a spicy finish on the palate. Balanced and very delicious with easy tannins. Enjoy with a veal Porterhouse steak. - Community Wine Reviews
