Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Super interesting offering, smoky with lots of sandalwood, fruit tobacco, cherry cola, black cherry and blackberry, dried tomato leaf and a hit of spice. 91 Points.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I discovered this classic Tempranillo recently and am going back to buy it again soon.
It shows a very fragrant nose with dark cherries and vanilla from 12 mos. in American oak. The mouth-watering palate is well-balanced and satiny smooth with lingering ripe cherry finish. A go-to choice with roast leg of lamb or duck.
Tasted Jan. 2018
Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted March 3rd, 2018. Colour dark ruby red. Legs thick. Aromas and flavours of blackcherry, chocolate, black pepper and dried leaves. Taste dry, black fruit, mouthwatering, full bodied, well integrated tannin. Finishes with rich fruit and tannin. Long finish. This is a nice wine, rich fruit that would match well with hearty Spanish dishes. We had the wine with a grilled steak. I would much prefer a charizo sausage pasta with fire roasted tomatoes. This wine is a great value for the price.
Produced by Jose Manuel Perez, El Pedrosal Crianza (2014) under the brand Cepa Gavilán, is made from 100% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) from 15- to 25-year-old vines in the Ribera del Duero and keeping the grape yields low. José Manuel Pérez considers the 2014 vintage one of the top five vintages in the last 30 years that the winery has produced. It's a year with elegance, balance and freshness. Drink now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
